This is a compostable compound supplied as pellets for injection moulding into toothbrush handles and similar personal care bodies. It is formulated for the stiffness a brush handle needs, for dimensional stability in wet service, and for secure anchorage of the tuft head in the moulded part. A toothbrush handle is a demanding application for a compostable polymer, and the reason is the timeline rather than the chemistry on its own. A compostable polymer is one that water can take apart: moisture diffuses into the solid, cuts the chains, and the molecular weight and the mechanical properties fall together. That is exactly the reaction wanted at end of life and exactly the one not wanted in service, because the handle sits in a wet bathroom for three months and must not soften, swell or lose its shape, then it should break down once it reaches a composting environment. The margin between the two lies in the conditions: a composting environment supplies sustained heat and moisture together, while a bathroom supplies moisture at ambient temperature, and the rate of the reaction rises steeply with temperature and with how much water the polymer takes up. That is the balance this grade is formulated for, holding water uptake and swelling low enough that the handle keeps its dimensions and keeps its grip on the tuft head through repeated wetting and drying. It applies equally to other moulded personal care bodies with a defined life in a humid environment.
