Custom beeswax blends are made to a stated specification rather than supplied from a standard range. Beeswax is combined with soy, rapeseed, coconut, palm, paraffin or microcrystalline wax, and the blend is built to an agreed melting point, hardness, colour and fragrance-load capability. Blending is worth doing because beeswax alone is rarely optimal. It is firm, long-burning and carries a genuine natural character, but it melts high at 61 to 65 degrees Celsius, needs a larger wick than makers expect, adheres poorly to glass and is among the most expensive candle waxes. Pairing it with a softer vegetable wax brings the melting point into container range and restores glass adhesion; pairing it with a microcrystalline fraction adds flexibility and stops larger candles cracking; adjusting the beeswax proportion trades cost directly against burn time and natural aroma. Setting the ratio deliberately, and then holding it, is what makes a formulation reproducible across production runs, which is the real problem a maker scaling up is trying to solve.
