Slack Wax MMO (Medium Machine Oil)

Slack Wax MMO (Medium Machine Oil) – Industrial Waxes product from Bio Green Wax

    About This Product

Slack Wax MMO, produced from the medium machine oil distillate fraction during lubricating oil refining, is a petroleum-derived semi-solid hydrocarbon wax classified under CAS No. 64742-61-6. MMO is characterised by a striking golden to dark amber colour on the ASTM D-1500 scale (maximum 4.5), a significant visual step up from the lighter LMO and SPO grades. This deeper colour reflects the higher concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heavier paraffinic structures present in the medium machine oil distillate cut. MMO is among the newer commercial slack wax grades to achieve formal specification status. Pertamina introduced Slack Wax MMO to its Cilacap product line recognising growing market demand — particularly from the cosmetics industry — for a heavier slack wax that could serve as primary feedstock for emulsifying wax (E-wax) production. Emulsifying wax is a cornerstone ingredient in creams, lotions, and personal care emulsions worldwide. With a melting point of 58–64°C and Bio Green Wax's customised oil content of 5–15%, Slack Wax MMO offers a notably different profile to SPO. Its viscosity of 8.3–9.4 cSt at 100°C — roughly double that of SPO — reflects a meaningfully heavier molecular structure. An interesting fact: MMO's oil content, which can range up to 20% in Bio Green Wax's grade, contributes plasticising and penetrating properties in certain adhesive and emulsion applications that a harder, more crystalline wax cannot replicate, making it preferable to a lower-oil alternative for specific formulations. Applications include emulsifying wax (E-wax) manufacturing as primary feedstock, cosmetics-grade wax blending for creams, lotions, and personal care emulsions, heavy-duty corrugated board and fibreboard moisture-barrier treatment, industrial adhesive and sealant formulations, tyre and heavy rubber compounding, construction waterproofing membranes, textile finishing and coating agents, hot-melt coating and lamination, and printing ink base formulations.
