Para-Soy Blend Wax

Para-soy blend wax is a formulated blend of refined paraffin and hydrogenated soybean oil, CAS 8016-70-4, supplied as white flakes or pellets. Container grade melts at 48.6 to 52.6 degrees Celsius and is poured at 50 to 55; pillar grade melts at 55 to 60 and is poured at 58 to 63. Fragrance load is 7 to 10 percent and heating is held below 85 degrees. It is the most widely used compromise in commercial candle making. Paraffin gives excellent hot throw, a smooth glossy surface, strong colour and reliable behaviour, but carries a petroleum origin that many brands now want to reduce. Soy is renewable and adheres well to glass, but frosts, gives wet spots and throws less strongly. Blending them recovers most of paraffin's surface quality and scent performance while cutting the petroleum fraction substantially, and the result is far more forgiving on the pour than plain soy, with fewer rejects from surface defects. The two grades separate cleanly by format: the lower melting container grade for jars and tins, the higher pillar grade for free-standing moulded candles. It is used in container and jar candles, moulded pillars, votives and tealights, and in high-volume commercial candle production.
