Michelia Alba Floral Wax

About This Product
Michelia alba floral wax is recovered during the extraction of white champaca. The flowers of Michelia alba, a magnolia relative grown across southern China, India and Southeast Asia, are solvent-extracted to a concrete, and washing that concrete with alcohol separates the aromatic absolute from the plant's cuticular waxes. The remaining wax fraction is filtered and refined. It carries CAS number 92457-18-6 and melts at 62 to 68 degrees Celsius. White champaca gives a lighter, fresher scent than the heavier white florals: green and tea-like with a clean floral lift, quite different from the indolic richness of jasmine, which is why perfumers keep both. The floral wax holds a proportion of those volatiles within the wax matrix, so it contributes a soft, diffusive version of the flower's character that releases on warming rather than projecting immediately. It is hard and brittle and is used as a minor fragrant component, generally at a few percent, where it also lends structure and a fine set. Yield and character track the harvest. It is used in natural perfumery and solid perfumes, balms and skin care, lip products, premium candle blends and as a natural fragrance carrier. Bio Green Wax supplies michelia alba floral wax to specification on melting point, acid and saponification value, colour, odour profile and residual solvent.
